The Greek Music Ensemble “Galan Trio” performs in 3 distinguished universities in Colorado and Utah presenting new commissions in collaboration with prominent composition faculty.
Galan Trio’s project “Kinesis,” is a survey on the music of contemporary American composers in an original, multifaceted concert program. The project draws from a collaboration between Galan Trio and professors of composition from selected US Universities, and from the notion of “Kinesis.” Kinesis is an undirected movement of a cell, organism, or part, in response to an external stimulus. In Greek, Kinesis means movement, motion. Motion is a fundamental characteristic of all living beings; motion is what all musicians worldwide have desired during the last couple of years; motion alludes to continuity and it’s a promise for the future of “Kinesis” itself.
The first edition of the project featured the work of five composers who contributed one original work for piano trio reflecting on the period of the pandemic. Galan Trio counts five U.S. editions of the project by now, in the East Coast, Midwest, Mid-Atlantic, South Central, Pacific Coast, and Western regions performing works by Yiorgos Vassilandonakis, Martin Gendelman, Matthew Greenbaum, Patricia Alessandrini, Pamela Madsen, Ken Steen, Alex Lubet, Navid Bargrizan, Larry Alan Smith and Richard Lavenda among others.
The latest edition features the works of Ofer Ben-Amots, David Volk, Ryan Seward, Andres Carrizo, Cindy Cox, and Miguel Chuaqui.

The Trinity Music Department presents a guest recital by the Galan Trio on Wednesday, March 22 at 7:30 p.m. in Ruth Taylor Recital Hall. The Trio will be premiering a piece by Dr. Brian Bondari. This performance is free and open to the public.
Galan Trio was formed in December 2012, when 3 Greek soloists, Petros Bouras - piano, Dimitra Triantafyllou - violin and Marina Kolovou - cello, decided to play music together. Their common vision was to approach important pieces of the worldwide musical literature in a fresh and energetic way. Respecting the scores but reforming the academic way of performing, Galan Trio tries to express the substance of these pieces through their personal perspective and subsidiary by using different forms of art, such as video-art, lighting and dancing. Since September 2018, Babis Karasavvidis is the violinist of Galan Trio.

2019 marks the 200th anniversary of the birth of Clara Schumann, who, together with Fanny Mendelssohn, is considered one of the greatest female Romantic composers: the former was Robert Schumann’s wife and the latter was Felix Mendelssohn’s sister.
Two child prodigies, impressive pianists and skilful composers in a male-dominated world, blossomed as far as their time would allow. Fanny’s songs found their way into collections published under her brother’s name, while Clara’s exuberant creativity waned as her husband’s mental state deteriorated. The two trios for piano and strings, one written by Clara at the age of 17, and the other by Fanny at the age of 41, the year she died, are among their best known works.
The Galan trio stood out in the ‘Open Auditions’, an Athens Concert Hall project which, for the last three years, has offered opportunities to talented and mostly unknown young musicians, and has provided a platform for them.
